It’s festival time in the city and everyone is making preparations. The Sleepy Kitten Tavern is a buzz and the booze is more watered down than usual to make it go around.
Gett came in today. Little guy wanted some premium liquor. He had 5 gold and offered his “professional services” in payment. He’s not really my type, but I’ll happily take the gold. I managed to convince him my mid range stuff was top shelf, made a nice profit!
The Mayor’s deadbeat son stumbled out of the tavern about 10 minutes late for his shift. Worst. Guard. Ever.
Things were going along fairly well, other than being ridiculously busy. And then the fire happened. The Judge‘s manor caught fire, AGAIN. That place is a tinder box filled with oil paints and all those candles. I’m surprised it doesn’t burn down every week! I got some of the less drunk patrons out to start the bucket brigade. Then I grabbed the good stuff (it’s flammable and close to the fire, I’M HELPING!) and made my way to the stables. Once everyone was busy with the fire I would do a little snooping/looting.
Then everything went wrong. I know that a fire starting sounds like when things went wrong, but it really really wasn’t. Everything just felt wrong, the wind started up, and then I noticed the sky’s rosy hue was gone. I made my way to the center of town where the Gem was, the Gem that kept us safe.
Bastard Mayor, guess his apple didn’t fall to far from his tree. I wasn’t the only one who headed to the center of town. The guard captain, the judge, I think I even saw Gett. Eventually the stable girl and she shepherdess arrived as well. Just in time to see the mayor smash the Gem into 7 pieces. A piece of it landed at my feet. I picked it up (probably worth something). I wasn’t prepared. My mind filled with memories from what felt like another lifetime. No time to sort through them, a giant fiery tornado arrived whispering “burn”. I pulled my crossbow. After a few volleys the judge did…. something, and the fire tornado was gone. So was the mayor, he had part of the gem with him. Then we saw them. An army coming for the town. They would be at the walls in 20 minutes. Not enough time to get everyone away. Where would they even go? The six of us stood there, we had to do something.
